Something I realised last night

E
last night I realised that the reason I should love my appearance and appreciate it is not because of beauty standards but because it tells a story. Our bodies tell a story of where we came from and who our ancestors were. And the symphony of genetics that we inherited. A lot of our genetics comes from our ethnicity,we are each this map of different countries, different origins. Sometimes our ancestors may have been discriminated against for their appearance and that shame can come into modern stereotypes and beauty standards. We aren’t meant to look perfect and exactly how we want to. And it can definitely be hard to love yourself, particularly if you’ve got traits that society might deem ugly or bad. There’s also this one Japanese legend that says that the face you have now once belong to someone you loved in your past life, which means that every time you look in the mirror you see someone you loved which I thought is rlly cool. I know that seems like a random example but I think this scene from TADC is really good: Gangle asks Zooble how to love a part of yourself that she thinks makes her worse than everyone else Zooble responds “Cause it exists. It's a part of you that's real, and the only "you" that you should care about is the real you. You have to choose to love yourself, even if it doesn't make sense. It's not natural, it's intentional.” Now obviously this is more about flaws and struggles rather than appearance but I think it can apply to both. I hope this reaches someone who needed to hear it.
