Did i do the right thing?

My dad came home from a trip today and asked my brother for a hug, which he declined. this made my dad really mad and he started yelling at my brother. after a solid 3 minutes of watching this my brother started crying. I told my dad that he should respect others boundaries, and that it was disgusting for him to make a kid cry bc he didn't wanna give him a hug. My dad started yelling that he's too young to have boundaries ( he's seven) and threw a wooden toy block at me before storming off. I comforted my brother as well as I could. Did I do the right thing or was I in the wrong?
