“Atty, get ready to leave.” Mom’s weak voice echoed into my dreams. “Yes, Mom? Where are we going?” I asked, looking at her, but she stayed still. “Mom?” I reached out to touch her but felt a pain in my hand as it got closer to her shoulder. “Mom?!” When my hand rested on her right shoulder, I felt something wet and gooey. So, I quickly pulled my hand away and saw bright red liquid stretching from her shoulder to my palm and wrapping around my finger. “We’re leaving to go see your Aunt Cassidy.” Her voice seemed friendly enough, but her face looked weak as if she had gone through something horrible. She reached out to grab my face but I dodged her slow movements. She seemed to be getting angrier and quicker with each attempt she made until she finally grabbed my head, slowly putting more and more pressure on it until it cracked open like an egg. “MOM!” I sat up from my bed with tears swelling up in my eyes. Mom rushed to my room. “Are you okay?!” She asked me, her light brown hair was up in a bun and her blue eyes were filled with worry and impatience, which was never a good thing with her. Her light skin nearly blended in with the white walls in my room. “Atty?” Her voice continued to echo, but with every second, it got better until her voice stopped echoing. “Atty.” She was grabbing both of my shoulders tightly and Dad was holding a cup of water like he was about to splash it in my face. “What- what happened?” Dad put the cup down and Mom took a sip after she’d let go of me. “I thought you went into a coma!” Dad laughed. Mom muttered something sarcastically and playfully hit his head. “Are you feeling okay?” Mom asked me, offering some water. “I’m fine.” She cringed, she knew I was lying. “We don’t have to go if you don’t want to.” Dad groaned and walked out the door. “We can go tomorrow if you’re not feeling well, Atty.” For some reason, that “Atty” didn’t seem friendly or concerned. It felt like a threat. But it also felt like I was just hearing things. “I’m fine. Where are we going though?” Mom looked me up and down skeptically. “Are you sure you’re fine? I just said we’re going to your Aunt Cassidy’s.” She grabbed a blanket and some tissues and set them down on the pastel pink bed sheets I had just placed down yesterday. “Oh.” I never liked going to Aunt Cassidy’s. I always had nightmares before and after going. “I’ll just call her right now and say we can’t go.” She took out her coral phone with sharks and octopi on the case. “It’s fine, Mom.” I stuttered. “I’m fine.” I slowly lowered her phone from her gaze. “Okay…” She put her phone in her pocket again and looked around the room. “You haven’t even started packing!” I raised my eyebrow. “Why would I need to pack?” Mom offered me the water again. “I told you last week to pack because we were going to spend the first week of summer at her place.” I winced at the fact that it meant I was going to have a lot of nightmares. “Hurry up and pack so we can go.” She began to throw all the clothes that was on the floor into the suitcase she brought to my room. “I’ll do it, Mom.” She rolled her eyes jokingly. “Get in the car! Hurry, Atty. We need to pick up the cake, remember?” Dad said from inside the car. I hurried and opened the door of the car when I saw a dead bird on the floor of the car. “Dad?” I stepped back in shock. “Dad?!” I turned to look at the driver’s seat where Dad had been just a few seconds ago, but inside of Dad, there was a humanoid creature with its right arm cut off and dried blood made a line down its leg and to the foot of the car. It got out of the car to stand up and look at me, but it had no face. It had holes that went entirely through its head in place of the eyes, looked like its nose had been chopped off, and its skin had been torn off in the shape of a smile. It groaned as it slowly limped towards me. I looked at its left leg and saw a hole as big as an 8-ball where its knee should’ve been. Only a small thread of skin on both sides of its leg held it together. It reached out to me with its left hand, and I saw old bandages that were tearing off and bubbles on its skin. Its hand had been burned. “Come. Come…” I started to hear it repeat again and again. “Please!” I pleaded as I slowly backed away to keep from its grasp. “Please! Leave me-” I fell over on a rubber water tube that we had left outside. “PLEASE!” I started crying and scrambling to get away, but it had already grabbed me. “PLEASE! LET ME GO!” I screamed as I kicked and punched to get away. Eventually, I just started screaming. Not words, just sound to attract attention and help. But no one came. He grabbed my neck and pulled me up high, as he was very, very tall, I tried to break free, but I felt less and less air getting to my lungs and I could feel my attempts at escaping getting weaker and weaker. “ATTY!” Mom’s voice sounded like she was crying profoundly. “ATTY!” Dad’s voice echoed as I opened my eyes. “Mom? Dad? What happened?” I felt weak and couldn’t bring myself to get up. “Atty!” Mom picked my upper half up from the concrete of the driveway and hugged me tightly. “We’re not going. Okay? We don’t have to go anywhere all the time. Never.” Dad put his hand on Mom’s shoulder. “We already said we were going to go.” She shook it off. “We can call and say we’re not.” Mom stood up and helped me up as well. Dad started the car and sat me down inside. “You know why we have to go.” Dad’s voice sounded grim and threatening. I eventually fell asleep on the road, but when I woke up, I heard Mom and Dad whispering. “Atty won’t even know what happened.” Mom giggled at Dad’s comment. “What if she’s still moving after that?” Mom said, as if Dad had said something heroic. “You know.” Dad slid his fingers across his neck. “What?!” I sat up straight. “I told you, saying Witchia wakes her up automatically.” Mom laughed and held out a can for me to take. Witchia is an energy drink. “What were you saying like, 5 minutes ago?” I asked frantically. Mom just stared at me like I was overreacting over something that wasn’t worth it. “We were placing a bet over whether you would wake up when we said Witchia or not.” She looked at Dad, who I knew was hoping she had forgotten. “Which, I believe I won!” She held out her hand and Dad pulled 5 dollars from his pocket. “Thank you very much!” Dad groaned jokingly. “You guys wouldn’t do anything to me right?” I shifted in my seat. Mom looked at me with much more concern than when I had broken my pinkie. “Sweetie, we would never let anything happen to you. Is something happening? Are you okay… emotionally?” Mom grabbed my hand gently. “Are you okay?” I heard an unknown voice say and then laugh. “Or are you just making your family worry for no reason? Look at your mother, she’s worried sick. I don’t think she can take any more of this.” The voice’s cackle faded into oblivion. I turned to look, but there was no one there. “Sweetie?” Dad stopped the car and had grabbed my other hand. “Y-yeah. I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” I took my hand away, scared I might hurt them. “I don’t think she can take any more of this.” It echoed through my mind and kept me awake the whole rest of the drive. “You should get some rest.” Mom said, rubbing my head. “She wants you to be vulnerable.” It whispered. I immediately moved my head. Mom looked hurt, but didn’t say anything. “She’s acting. Don’t fall for her tricks.” I covered my ears. “We’re finished.” Dad said, clearly exhausted from carrying everything in. “Are you tired?” Mom reached out for my hand, but I pulled it away. “No. I’m fine.” I walked into the house and greeted Aunt Cassidy. “What’s wrong? Feeling weird? It’s fine. You’re fine. You’re fine.” The voice whispered. “Do you want a tea?” Aunt Cassidy, upon hearing that I was acting strange in the car, asked. “It’s not tea. It’s poison.” I fumbled over words. “Yes, please.” I felt scared saying it. “You’ll regret it. I know you will.” It sounded pleased to say it. “Here you go, Atty.” She hugged me as if it was the last time she ever would. “Drink up and go rest, it was a long trip.” After I finished the tea, I went to the room I’m usually in when we stay at her house. “You listen to me.” A tall boy with dark brown hair and blood-red eyes was choking me. “STOP IT!” I screamed. “What’s wrong?!” Mom rushed in. “He’s-” I looked back to show her who was choking me, but there was no one there. “Atty!” She ran towards me and pulled my hand from my neck. I gasped for air. “Atty, are you okay?” I was about to talk when I heard the voice again. “Oh, Atty!” It repeated, each time getting louder. “No, NO! Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!” I cried. This is what I have of my horror book :D
