6th grade John has made a nice transition to middle school after coming from elementary school in St. Vrain Valley School District. John feels school is going "good, because all the teachers are nice and help me." John's favorite class is Choir, because he likes singing and you get to go to concerts. John has a goal for himself for the school year to pay attention more in class so he can learn better. John is participating in Choir this year. Outside of school, John enjoys video games, watching tv, playing with his cats, hanging out with friends, and going to the park. After high school, John is interested in joining the workforce. He would possibly like to work in the culinary field. Math: John is a very polite, nice, respectful student. He is quiet and gets along well with others. He can, at times, work hard, but also he tends to try to avoid work as well. He will work harder if someone is sitting right with him, helping him out. If he is working by himself, he is easily distracted and does not get much accomplished. With support John can do some pretty basic math, but he still struggles with multiplication and sixth grade concepts. Literacy: John is very quiet and a very nice student. He is eager to please and responds well to one on one and positive comments. He struggles quite a bit with reading and writing. In reading I understand that he has dyslexia and one can see that with his decoding. However, there seems to be more of an issue with his reading with that. He struggles with retention of ideas and comprehension. In writing, even with use of sentence stems and graphic organizers he struggles to communicate ideas beyond simple sentences. I am concerned that he is not yet receiving adequate support to address his deficits in language arts. 7th John's favorite class is Health. Outside of school, John enjoys video games, watching tv, playing with his cats, hanging out with friends, and going to the park. After high school, John is interested in joining the workforce. He would possibly like to join the Army or play football. Mom shared that he is a good helper at home. He will take care of the cats, do cooking and dishes. He does the right thing and is very honest when he makes a mistake. Mrs. Penner, Special Education Teacher, states "John can have a great work ethic, at times. He seems more eager to work in a small group setting. I have been encouraging him to raise his hand and ask for help if he doesn't understand something. On some days, he will sit and not start work because he doesn't have a pencil but he does not ask for one. He has a bit of "learned helplessness" in some ways but he is getting better. He is a very kind child who works very hard to please me. I really enjoy working with John. I'm so proud of his progress in both Reading and Math!" Mrs. Holloway, Social Studies Teacher, states "John is very capable of producing modified work when he is present at school and chooses to work. Often though it requires a lot of pushing to get him to start. He has a learned helplessness that tends to prevent him from getting started, but once he does he is very capable of completing it. His frequent absences result in a lot of missed content time that hurts him during assessments. John has lots of friends and is liked by his peers. He is a good advocate for himself at times and is polite and respectful to adults." This is physical proof I got the right guy
