How can I print patterns for my pin maker?

I asked for a pin maker for Christmas, and now I have one. I was excited because then I could have pins for fandoms with no merch. It's a bit jank, but works alright enough. I only have a black & white printer at home, so I can't put together color designs and print them with Publisher. My parents won't get a color printer because you have to refill four inks instead of just one. I've been making a few pins using markers, but beyond just writing text, I'm at a loss. I want to put things together digitally. Do you suggest I use my library's printer or my school's printers? Have any of you done that before? I work at an electronics workshop, so should I ask my boss if we have any color printers? Are there cheap color printers I could buy? I have a large enough budget, I just don't want to waste it.
