My essay for Social Studies (Jim Crow)

Jim Crow laws were laws created by rasist people in legislative to limit the rights of African-Americans. They segregated public facilities by race, i.e. White resturants and Black resturants. Jim Crow laws were happening in primarily the deep south, Alabama, Louisiana, etc. They limited African-American’s rights by also making laws that made it so African-Americans couldn’t do certain things or had to do certain things. One example is having to pay a poll tax when they voted, which a lot of the time they couldn’t pay because of the Jim Crow laws. Many people fought back against these laws, and W.E.B. DuBois fought back against them the best. Instead of fighting back with violence or protests, W.E.B. DuBois fought back with education. He broke the racial steriotype that all African-Americans are uneducated and illiterate, as he was the first African-American to graduate Harvard with a PhD. He co-founded the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), and co-founded the Niagra Movement as well, which were both important to fighting Jim Crow laws. He also created the Talented 10th, which was the top 10% of African-Americans who were chosen to fight Jim Crow laws head on. In addition, he challenged the ideas of Booker. T. Washington, another activist who was fighting against Jim Crow in a different way. He said that instead of fighting the racist laws and standing up for yourself, you should be friends with the white people who enslaved your whole race for hundreds of years. DuBois challenged his ideas in the newspaper he created and edited, The Crisis. In conclusion, W.E.B DuBois was the most beneficial and one of the most important people in fighting for African-American rights and against Jim Crow laws. He changed a lot of peoples lives (Talented 10, NAACP) and will always be a part of history. *sigh* (also here are some Napolian Dynamite memes)
