My final essay for the quarter lol

E
the final essay that I wrote in 2 days then edited for 6.... Read it below.... Have your grandparents or parents ever taught you how to do something? This is a good example of the importance of older generations to younger generations. To provide some context, it is important for older generations to pass things down to younger ones because if they didn’t, skills and ideas will not be passed down through generations. It is important for older generations to teach younger ones new things. For example, my grandfather taught me how to make fires, my grandma taught me how to bake, and my parents taught me how to read. My first example is personal to me. When I was around 7 years old, I went down to my grandparent’s house. I call them Mémé and Pap. They live in Riner, Virginia somewhat near Blacksburg, in a house that my Pap built mostly with his own two hands. They have owned chickens and rabbits and have a huge garden, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I have a memory of my Pap teaching me how to build a fire, which has served me well, as I go camping often. My Mémé taught me how to make her pie crust, which is the only pie crust that my dad really likes. This idea also connects to two of the texts that we have read, “Mom and Me and Mom” and “Two Kinds.” In “Mom and Me and Mom,” the main character learned that she wanted to be charitable toward others, saying, “I may never be known as a philanthropist, but I certainly want to be known as charitable.” (Mom and Me and Mom, by Maya Angelou, page 73, paragraph 19.) Additionally, in “Two Kinds” the main character learns from her mother that she should stick with things, even if they are hard or she doesn’t want to do them. This connects back to my main idea by showing how both of the main characters are learning things from their elders. My final point is coming from my rap. Both my rap and my essay show that older generations pass things down. Those could be positive things, such as how to do or make things, or they could be negative ideas, such as contempt for younger/older generations, or hatred towards specific groups of people. In my rap, this is shown in the lines, “Hah, You think you smart? Y’all just a bunch of clowns,” showing that the older generation is passing on their discontent towards the younger generations. To summarize, older generations can teach younger generations many things. We should listen to your elders, as they may have important things to say. We should learn from them and keep open minds. It is clear that older generations teaching younger ones and sharing knowledge and culture is very important. We should keep this tradition alive by listening to what our elders have to say, instead of just blowing them off as useless or not as smart because they are older than us. We ought to listen to our elders, because they shape who we become.
