Hello! I am making this tutorial to help total beginners in their kandi making journey when it comes to making multistich cuffs following a pattern because there is no official tutorial i've seen breaking down step by step on how to follow a pattern. This video is the closest to it but the creator doesn't actually show how to follow the pattern. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUD79zfle58&list=PLbQtvyYkJ3PpzSrLwRlQLZecyuBQbfLH6&index=5) I HIGHLY recommend watching this video and pairing it with this tutorial to get the most benefit!! I am also making this tutorial because i know as a beginner myself (i've only been in the kandi community for only a few months and have made like- 7 multistich cuffs and 3 even stich peyote cuffs XD) even watching tutorials (as in like the one i just posted and 1 per type of stitch XD) because the creator is a seasoned professional they don't go in depth in how to keep the tension in the string and that can mess up beginners so i will be really emphasizing it in this tutorial so your first cuff can turn out flawless on the first try!! (so you don't have to go through trial and error to get the stitch technique down pat like i did, since i have that's what the tutorial is for so you don't have to!)
Step 1
Pick a website for a Pattern to Follow! There are two websites that offer patterns obviously here on kandi pad but also on kandipatterns.com!!
Step 2
How to find the number panel on kandipatterns.com part 1 If you're using kandipatterns.com either click on the pattern on the site to be brought to the pattern's page and click on it again for the number panel to show up (this is shown in the youtube video link i posted) or if it's a pattern you created yourself on the pattern maker go to the "My Stuff" which has a folder icon picture on the top right corner of the website, click on it, go to "All Patterns"
Step 3
How to find the number panel on kandipatterns.com part 2 Click on which pattern you want to make then click on the number pattern button and viola, you have your number panel that you'll be following
Step 4
How to find the number panel on kandi pad part 1 If you're using kandi pad click on the pattern on the site to be brought to the pattern's page and then scroll down and click on the PDF Guide
Step 5
How to find the number panel on kandi pad part 2 On the 3rd page is where the number panel is offered! Edit: Nvm this is just the colour coordination not a number panel ;-; alright so currently idk how to do it on kandi pad and personally i just recreate the pattern i see on kandipad on kandi patterns to have the number panel XD
Step 6
Collect your beads! Wouldn't it suck if you start on a project and in the middle of it you find yourself running out of a colour!? on both kandi pad and kandi patterns they show you how much is the bead colour count for the project on kandi pad it's right under the pattern (i personally have to refresh the pattern's webpage just to get it to show up for me) on kandi patterns you have to scroll down on the pattern's webpage or it'll be under the pattern like in the pic of step 3 if it's a personal pattern i'm not going to post these as separate steps of how to find the bead colour count since if you managed to navigate both pages to find the number panels i'm sure you'll be able to navigate these websites to find the bead colour count too!! I recommend putting them in a little zip block baggie like this bonus points you can set up a multiple projects at once by collecting the according beads for them and put them in baggies and label the bag with the pattern name so then you can save on prep time!
Step 7
How to make the single The single is all the beads labelled as "1" when making the single start from the right and add beads from right to left so for example in this pattern i have to add 6 black beads and then my 7th bead will be purple the reason why you shouldn't make the single from left to right like in the picture is because when it comes to threading the beads in you'll end up having to do the pattern backwards
Step 8
How to tie off the single Pay attention to the tension! tie it off tight enough that the beads bunch up like this just slightly not too tight that it bunches up too much but make sure there's a little bit of a bunch or else you'll know it's too loose!!
Step 9
Adding the first row of beads! Finally the fun part! Actually doing the project! :D now see the it's all the beads labeled "2" in my pattern the yellow in the single is the 2nd bead so for the thread it should be over the black bead before the yellow bead so the 1st yellow bead in the row can sit on the black bead
Step 10
How to thread the beads This step is really important!! skip the middle/1st bead of the pattern when threading on the 1st bead when you thread on consecutive beads you skip every other bead whenever you thread on a bead pull on it tight! tight enough that the bead under the added bead is straight down and the top on is straight on it PINCH THE STRING TO KEEP THE TENSION!! especially in the first few rows pinch the string every time you add on a bead!! it'll ensure your cuff will have no gaps in between the beads this is the secret sauce to a perfect cuff!! PULL ON TIGHT EVERY TIME YOU ADD A BEAD then pinch!!
Step 11
When it comes to last bead If you saw the youtube video then you'll know but I'm adding it here too thread the string into the following 2 beads to continue onto the 2nd row don't be alarmed if the gaps between the beads of the 1st row are wide, it'll be fixed by the time you add the 2nd row when you add the 2nd row the cuff will start to get it's shape and will stand upright, having your cuff flat right now is totally normal
Step 12
Adding the 2nd row Repeating myself here but that's just to emphasize how important it is whenever you thread on a bead pull on it tight! PINCH THE STRING TO KEEP THE TENSION!! PULL ON TIGHT EVERY TIME YOU ADD A BEAD then pinch!!
Step 13
Adding 3rd row and 4th row In both rows 3 and 4 when you're following the pattern the first bead is DIAGONAL to the previous row so the last bead in the row does not match up to the end of the pattern but is in fact the bead before the first added bead of the row
Step 14
Adding 5th row and beyond This is a repetition but I just want to make it clear what I'm talking about by showing another picture you're following the pattern the first bead is DIAGONAL to the previous row (represented by the blue arrow) so the last bead in the row does not match up to the end of the pattern but is in fact the bead before the first added bead of the row
Step 15
Organization tip! I recommend laying out the beads for the row you're going to work on this will make the process faster/smoother/more efficient you don't have to do it this way, you can pick out the bead as it comes up in the pattern if you want
Step 16
How to tie off complete cuff Insert the string in the gap between the last bead added and the adjacent bead to it the string will make a loop and you insert the string in the loop to create a knot knot it at least 3 times and cut off excess string
Step 17
FLIP YOUR CUFF INSIDE OUT As you can see if you don't the pattern is appearing as mirrored from the original image of the pattern!! Then viola, you have completed your multistich cuff!!
Hopefully the beginning portion was helpful and not redundant as it was website navigation for totally new kandi makers who may be new to the websites and are still learning how to navigate them oh how i wish there was an option to add multiple pictures per step!! I hope people who need this tutorial find it and if you do and end up using it to make a cuff i would love to be notified about what cuff you made using this tutorial as a guide!! (like @ me when making a forum post with the pic of your cuff or something)
