Homestuck charm

I don't really know how to do a ladder stitch, but this is impossible to recreate in peyote (I have 2 other attempts deep in my gallery). Whenever I do a ladder stitch, I assemble each row separately on a straw and cut them into long "mega beads" that I string together. It feels ineffective, but I'm afraid the charm will bow if I don't do that.
