Short tutorial showing how to make a watermelon keychain or charm. What you need: String (I use red ribbon) 4 light green beads 3 green beads 6 white beads 11 red beads 4 black beads Optional: Needle (makes it easier to get through the ends of beads)

Step 1

Do these steps if you are making a keychain. Otherwise skip to step 4. Fold the string in half, put both and through the keyring and back through the loop of the middle of the string. Pull tight.

Step 2

Taking one side of the string, add a green bead. Then, using the other side of the string, put it through that same green bead on the other side of the bead. Pull tight.

Step 3

On each string, add light green, green, and light green. Push the beads up near the first green bead. Skip to step 5.

Step 4

Do this step if you are making a charm, otherwise go to step 5. Put a light green, green, light green, green, light green, green, light green bead on either end of the string. pull the beads to the middle of the string.

Step 5

At this point forward the steps are the same for keychain and charm. I use kechain in this demonstration. On one end of the string put 6 white beads. Then go through the beads on the opposite end with the other string. Pull tight

Step 6

With the string on the left side, put 1 red, 1 black, and 3 red on the end. Put the right side string through the opposite end of the beads. Pull tight.

Step 7

Starting again with the string on the left side. Put 3 red then 1 black on the string. Using the right side string pull through the opposite ends of the beads. Pull tight.

Step 8

On the left side put 1 black and 2 red beads. String the right side through the opposite end. Pull tight.

Step 9

Put 1 red and 1 black bead on the left side and pull the right side through the other end. Pull tight.

Step 10

Finally just put the each string through one end of a red bead. Pull tight. Now the pattern is finished but if you go to pick it up, the top two rows like to flop. Let's fix that.

Step 11

Using the left side you are going to weave back up the rows as shown. Coming out right near that key ring.

Step 12

Using the right side you are going to weave back up the rows as shown. Coming out right near that key ring. Now the rows of the piece are stable.

Step 13

Now if you are making a keychain you can knot around the loop and cut the ends. If you are making a charm though, let's hide the tie off. String the left side back down a row and overhand knot it with the right side. Pull tight.

Step 14

Put a second overhand knot (and any more you want to feel it is secure, just make sure the knot does not get bigger than the hole of a bead) and then String the right string back through the white bead, pulling the knot into the middle of the white bead.

Step 15

Cut the ends short and you are officially done!

The one side of the project looks a bit better than the other side so point that one face up. Hope you liked my tutorial and can make your own slice of melon.
